Evidence before narrative — always

Visual storytelling as part of science and tech communication

Ernest & Kin is an Evidence-Based Communication™ consultancy working across science, technology, healthcare and society. Drawing on doctorate-level expertise, we help organisations turn complex research, specialised knowledge and evidence of impact into communication that is clear, credible and meaningful.

From communication strategy and impact reporting to editorial development, visual storytelling, academic writing and professional training, we begin with a simple question: What does the evidence allow us to say, and what story does it genuinely tell? The result is communication that withstands scrutiny, builds trust and makes impact visible.

Julian Tang

Dr Julian Tang is the Founder and Managing Director of Ernest & Kin, and the developer of Evidence-Based Communication™ and the SHARE Framework. A scientist by training and a communications strategist and editor by practice, he holds a PhD in Medicine and Health Sciences from the University of Melbourne.

His career spans Singapore, Australia and Japan. He has served as a lecturer at the University of Tokyo, a research consultant and editor at Japan’s National Center for Child Health and Development, a scientific editor at Springer Nature and Head of Research Communications and Editorial at the National University of Singapore.

Julian has advised and worked with senior leaders, researchers and organisations across science, technology, healthcare, innovation and the social sciences, shaping everything from institutional narratives and impact reports to white papers, thought leadership and public-facing communications.

His approach combines analytical rigour with editorial judgement: interrogating what the evidence supports, identifying what genuinely matters to the audience and turning complexity into communication that is clear, credible and human. He also speaks and teaches on Evidence-Based Communication™, impact reporting, research communication and technical writing.

Julian believes organisations should communicate not merely what they have done, but what changed, for whom and why it matters.
